Each end of MDA's International Space Station Remote Manipulator System (SSRMS) is equipped with a specialized mechanism Latching End Effector that provides power and data signals at both ends of the arm, and is equipped with a camera and lights to provide visual guidance to the arm operator.

The Latching End Effector has the ability to lock on to one of many special fixtures, called Power Data Grapple Fixtures, and detaching its other end allowing Canadarm2 to move around the exterior of the International Space Station in a manner similar to how an inchworm moves. Only the number of installed Power Data Grapple Fixtures on the Station's exterior limits Canadarm2's range of movement.
